As a kid growing in the street of Onitsha, one of the peak season we always look up to is the Christmas period. It is not always because of the glamour or the change of fashion that comes with the season, it is because of the “anything for the boys” money that comes from uncles and senior relatives. It is also a period where you can go around the city looking for an emergency give away patron.

As an adult Nigerian who has been following the present administration since 2015, our expectations from rich folks online and from the Late General Sani Abacha is not far from the scene described above. One of the periods we always look up to is when our ‘National Angel’ decides to ship some money from his ‘assets’ to the national pocket especially in the time of financial crisis. Yesterday, the big announcement was made by the Attorney General of the federal republic that once again, another batch of the Abacha loot has been recovered in far away New Jersey, United States of America. This time, it is a whopping sum of 311 million dollars.

On one hand, it should be a good reason to be happy considering that our National Sugar Daddy has once again delivered his promise of a national give away but on the other hand, it will be one of those funds that will be spent in taking care of imaginary ‘vulnerable people’ in our society or will be used for funding one of those items in the budget which will have no impact in the life of Nigerians. Nigerians in their playful way have been making a gesture of what the supposed funds should be used for but as usual, the majority expects Nigeria to happen to the recovered funds.

A publication by Premium Times quoted that the Federal Government till date cannot give an account of what all the recovered Abacha’s loot have been used for, which amount to almost five billion dollars. This is supposed to be a source of concern to Nigerians but unfortunately, we are still in the mood of celebration and never-ending bants on social media while the expenditure plan and sharing formula of the 311million dollars have been decided in Abuja.

This is a known problem with a non-feasible solution as the system kills and frustrate solutions to its self inflicted madness.
